Art for a Sustainable Future: QIAF 2025!

We're thrilled to send our support to new BRIDGES coalition members, MAPS International WLL, as they co-organise the upcoming 7th Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF). Taking place Dec 7–12, 2025 at Katara Cultural Village, Doha, QIAF is a progressive art festival offering a global platform bringing together artists from 70+ countries. The aim is to drive cross-cultural dialogue and positive social change through art, aligning beautifully with the BRIDGES mission, with a theme this year of “Sustainability and Innovation in Art”.

Visionary Victory: Congo Basin Futures Project Wins Prestigious Dubai Foresight Award!

A unique project exploring the future of the Congo Basin, led by Dr. Nsah Mala from the University of Cologne's BRIDGES Hub for Planetary Wellbeing, has clinched a top international honour, winning the inaugural Dubai Foresight Awards in the "Foresight for the Planet" category. The project, titled Congo Basin Futures, was celebrated last Tuesday, November 18, 2025, out hundreds of submissions from 50 countries it was named the overall category winner. Congo Basin Futures utilises innovative, foresight-based approaches, including participatory foresight methodologies, storytelling, and indigenous knowledge, to map out both undesirable and preferred futures for the world's second-largest tropical rainforest.

‘Building BRIDGES to a Biophilic Future: Reimagining Progress in Relationship with our Planet’ by Prof. Luci Attala, argues that the concept of "progress" must be urgently redefined beyond its current narrow focus on economic growth and technological innovation. In an era of poly-crises and inequality, a "biophilic" (life-loving) approach is needed, integrating wisdom from the humanities and Indigenous ontologies to ground progress in dignity and justice for people and planet. This thought piece advocates for a biophilic economy as a "grounded" alternative that supports nature, viewing ecosystems not as resources to be exploited but as partners in creating long-term value. BRIDGES are proud to announce the publication of this piece, featured this month on UNESCO’s Futures Literacy and Foresight Collection of Thought Pieces.

Call for applications for a post-doc position

UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES are pleased to announce a new post-doc position in Portugal with an explicit connection to the BRIDGES Coalition, working to build new capacities. “The contractor's functions consist of the investigation and structuring of a global network of geoethical territories, anchored in UNESCO's BRIDGES programme and aligned with the SDGs, focused on geoethical management, built from the existing networks of the Centre for Geosciences. The expected result is a protocol for the implementation of BRIDGES territories based on geomorphological and humanistic criteria, quality assessment parameters and implementation guidelines, which can support in an academically coherent way the network of territories that subscribe to this orientation.”
